John Ele-Ojo Ataguba is an Associate Professor and Director of the Health Economics Unit, University of Cape Town (UCT).  He is also an elected member of the South African Young Academy of Science.  John holds a PhD in economics from UCT and he has over 10 years of research experience in many African countries.  His current research interests include health financing; inequality and equity in health and health services; economics of alcohol; program impact and effectiveness evaluation; poverty analysis and social determinants of health. He teaches topics in health financing, applied microeconomics and quantitative health economics to graduate students at UCT. He is the recipient of several competitive awards including the TW Kambule-NSTF Award in South Africa to an emerging researcher in recognition for an outstanding contribution to science, engineering, technology and innovation; the College of Fellows Young Researcher Award; and the Claude Leon Merit Award for Young Lecturers.  John serves as a member of the Board of Trustee for the African Health Economics and Health Policy Association and he has a great interest in academic writing.
