Southern leadership
Despite major strides in research capacity across the Global South, local experts often still don't hold leading roles in development research and policy discussions. This persistent underrepresentation weakens the relevance, effectiveness, and long-term impact of development initiatives. The Promoting Local Leadership initiative, led by Southern-based PEP research fellows, seeks to document, understand, and amplify the role of local researchers—those with deep contextual knowledge and trusted relationships—in shaping economic policy and driving meaningful, lasting change in their communities.
