Research Alliance for Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development
The Research Alliance for Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Development (RAISED Africa) is a multi-country research and policy engagement initiative to advance policy-ready evidence for inclusive and sustainable economic development in Africa.
RAISED Africa is one of three pan-African consortia awarded grants from the Africa Think Tank Platform (ATTP), itself a five-year African Union Commission (AUC) initiative funded by the World Bank Group and implemented by the AUC in partnership with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) and the African Union Development Agency–NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD).
Addressing an urgent policy need
African countries are navigating complex and interconnected development challenges, including climate change, food insecurity, and constraints to economic transformation and governance. Meanwhile, gaps remain in the production, coordination, and use of policy-relevant evidence. RAISED Africa seeks to help close these gaps by generating actionable, locally grounded evidence to support more effective policymaking and strengthen the role of African think tanks in research and policy engagement.
Policy-engaged research to strengthen decision-making
RAISED Africa supports multidisciplinary research and engagement activities aligned with national and regional priorities. By combining technical analysis with structured policy engagement, the initiative is designed to ensure that evidence is co-produced, validated, and positioned for uptake within government and institutional systems.
To strengthen the likelihood of policy uptake, RAISED Africa builds sustained linkages between researchers and decision-makers, supports communities of practice across thematic areas, and embeds monitoring, evaluation, and learning throughout the programme.
Research across priority thematic areas
Within the broader ATTP framework, which covers six strategic thematic areas, RAISED Africa focuses on four interconnected areas:
- Human capital development
- Climate change
- Food security
- Economic transformation and governance
These areas reflect pressing regional challenges and support the development of integrated, cross-sectoral policy responses.
A collaborative approach
RAISED Africa is led by the Economic Research Forum (ERF, Egypt) and brings together PEP and the Resource and Environmental Policy Research Centre (REPRC, Nigeria).
As one of the three consortia supported under ATTP, RAISED Africa contributes to a broader African effort to strengthen evidence-informed policymaking and accelerate implementation of Agenda 2063.
