Prof. Alphonse Singbo is an agricultural economist and professor in the Department of Agri-Food Economics and Consumer Sciences at Laval University. He previously worked with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), one of the 15 CGIAR centers.
His expertise lies in microeconomics, applied econometrics, and empirical research methodology. For over a decade, he has focused on agricultural value chain performance, impact assessment, and modeling, including the development of a methodology to assess marketing efficiency. He has extensive knowledge of the agricultural sector in West and Central Africa and has long been engaged in research on the competitiveness of agricultural enterprises and the welfare of smallholder farmers in Africa.
Prof. Singbo also has in-depth knowledge of agricultural policies across Canada, the European Union, and sub-Saharan Africa, with broad research interests spanning agricultural policy and development economics.
