Dr. Nompumelelo Nyathi-Mohohlwane is an education researcher at South Africa’s National Department of Basic Education, where she focuses on system monitoring, research, and evaluation of education interventions. She has been a core member of the research team for the government-led Early Grade Reading Study randomized control trials (2015–2018, 2018–2021) and led the development of early-grade reading benchmarks across 11 South African languages.
She holds a Doctorate in Education Policy from Stellenbosch University, is a non-resident fellow with the Centre for Global Development, and serves on the Academic Lead Team for the What Works Hub. Her research has informed both national and international debates on foundational learning.
