PEP signs a long-term agreement with UNICEF to provide high-quality technical expertise in the area of child poverty and social protection.
Testifying to the high quality of PEP’s technical expertise, UNICEF has selected PEP as one of the institutions to help implement their Child Poverty and Social Protection activities. This relationship was formally recognised at the start of June 2022 when PEP signed a Long-Term Agreement with UNICEF to provide technical expertise in this area.
Under this agreement, PEP may be called upon over the next three years to support UNICEF country offices in conducting child poverty measurement and research using a variety of methodologies.
A team of PEP Research Fellows, mentors, and affiliated researchers with particular expertise and experience in child poverty analysis will conduct the projects commissioned under this agreement.
PEP has a history of working with UNICEF to investigate specific issues relating to child poverty or social protection. These projects include:
- Investigating the impact of fuel subsidy reform in Sudan
- Assessing policies to combat increasing child poverty in Tunisia and Morocco caused by the Covid-19 crisis
- Compiling child poverty statistics in Malawi and identifying financing options for Tunisia to develop a child-centered social protection policy
- A situational analysis on the extent of child poverty in Uganda
- Simulations of fiscal space and public spending on children in Burkina Faso
- Assessing the impact of the global financial crisis on children in West and Central Africa
