Vaqar Ahmed has been appointed to join a newly established commission to advise the Federal Minister of Finance on economic policies.The Finance Minister of Pakistan has named Vaqar Ahmed as a member of its new Reforms and Resource Mobilization Commission (RRMC). This commission will advise the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Ishaq Dar, on economic policies and make recommendations to improve resource mobilization in the country.
According to the announcement issued by the Finance Ministry, the RRMC consists of eleven members, including Dr. Ahmed, as well as representatives from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Pakistan Tax Bar Association. This commission, headed by Ashfaq Tola, will review existing fiscal policies, identify issues in the current tax system and make recommendations for improving the ease of doing business and pro-economic development.
Additionally, the RRMC will simplify tax law complexities, propose an action plan to reduce the informal economy and make recommendations to improve financial inclusion.
Vaqar is currently the Joint Executive Director of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) as well as a PEP Research Fellow whose recent research informs our webinar series on the underrepresentation of Southern researchers in Development Economics. He has also worked for international organizations such as the World Bank and UNDP.
