PEP congratulates and celebrates Dr Nkechi Owoo on her promotion to the role Full Professor of Economics at the University of Ghana. An expert in research, teaching and policy engagement, she is the first woman to hold this position.

Her specialty subjects span health and demographic economics, gender, spatial econometrics, climate change and environmental sustainability, and poverty and inequality. Dr Owoo has undertaken three PEP projects, looking at topics ranging from food insecurity to reproductive rights.

In 2023, she was selected to become a PEP Research Fellow, a testament to the high quality of her publications, research, teaching and conference participation. PEP Research Fellows are at the vanguard of efforts to combat the enduring marginalization of local researchers in scientific and policy discussions around their countries' economic development.

“I am committed to producing impactful, inclusive research that informs equitable development across Africa,” said Dr Owoo. Regarding her promotion, she said: “I remain committed to research, teaching, and mentorship that make Economics more inclusive, relevant, and impactful.”
