Jane Mariara Speaks on Earth4All Kenya in International Sustainability Magazine

May , 2025| Online

Professor Jane Kabubo-Mariara, Executive Director of the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP), was recently featured in the international magazine Renewable Matter, in a special issue exploring sustainable and just development models in the Global South.

In a wide-ranging interview with Marco Moro, editor-in-chief at Edizioni Ambiente and deputy editor of Renewable Matter, Professor Mariara shared insights from the Earth4All-Kenya National Engagement Report a localized adaptation of the global Earth4All model originally spearheaded by the Club of Rome and other global institutions.

The Kenya report, led by PEP in partnership with, the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA),  Millennium Institute, and the Club of  Rome, who also served as a partner and funder, shows that if the country implements transformative policies referred to as the “Five Turnarounds” it could eliminate extreme poverty, achieve near gender parity, expand access to education and energy, and foster inclusive economic growth by the year 2050.

Jane Mariara discussed the potential of policies focused on clean energy access, gender empowerment, equitable finance, modern agricultural support, and education. She highlighted the importance of partnerships, equity-driven development strategies, and the growing role of circular economy practices in promoting long-term sustainability.

The interview also examined Kenya’s political landscape and the opportunities presented by the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) towards a just and sustainable economy. Jane emphasized that a “Giant Leap” forward will require coordination across all sectors of society, from government and development partners to youth, women, and marginalized communities.

The interview appears in Issue 56 of Renewable Matter and is available in both English and Italian. The digital edition includes links to the full Earth4All-Kenya report.
