Key Action Areas for Youth Employment Policy in Rwanda

Youth in Rwanda face a lack of dignified and meaningful work and a key challenge is a mismatch between the skills gained in school and those needed in the labor market.
Following an in-depth empirical review of youth employment policies and programs (YEPs) in Rwanda, a team of local researchers and stakeholders recommended specific actions to improve the efficiency and outcomes of these interventions:
- Greater support and encouragement for Rwanda’s young entrepreneurs to enable them to become job makers, rather than job seekers,
- Improved coordination between the various youth employment programs for greater efficiency with increased partnership between public and private players
- Increased funding for youth employment programmes through effective resource mobilization.
