Key Action Areas for Youth Employment Policy in Kenya

A higher proportion of Kenya’s youth faces the challenge of unemployment and underemployment with women being clearly more disadvantaged than men. Further, around half of those employed are in vulnerable jobs and there is a considerable skills deficit in the country.
Following an in-depth empirical review of youth employment policies and programs (YEPs) in Kenya, a team of local researchers and stakeholders recommended specific actions to improve the efficiency and outcomes of these interventions:
- Enhance synergies across interventions and design comprehensive programs addressing multiple challenges,
- Develop a centralized coordination framework to improve implementation and awareness of YEPs.
