Key Action Areas for Youth Employment Policy in Ghana

Ghana faces high rates of youth unemployment and under-employment with those in the age group of 15-24 severely affected, with women impacted more than men. Despite the government having dedicated major resources to designing and implementing policy interventions to create dignified and fulfilling work for the youth to address over the years, the challenge persists.
Following an in-depth empirical review of youth employment policies and programs (YEPs) in Ghana, a team of local researchers and stakeholders recommended specific actions to improve the efficiency and outcomes of these interventions:
- Centralised implementation to improve coordination and minimise program duplication
- Consolidation of youth employment programs to enhance coordination and efficiency with moderate government investment.
