What are the incentives for farmers to increase production/productivity in the face of limited market access, potentially large price elasticity, and post harvest loss and lack of storage facilities.
Case where the gender categories are not mutually exclusive: for instance a female can be both owner, manager, head of hh. How to deal with this? Think of using interaction terms among the various gender variables
Additional gender indicator to be considered: share of female workers in the farming activity
dependent variable: log production value per hectare (yield). One issue: change in productivity may come from change in price or change in output, or both. Better to consider more conventional measure of productivity (output - physical quantity- per hectare). One issue to consider in the context of multiple crops is 1 kg of maize is not the same as 1 kg of rice. Need to control for crops in the pooled analysis, or use "grain-equivalence"
Consider additional measures of productivity/efficiency: non-parametric measures
Survey relatively old (2009) -> how it portrays the current landscape of the farming activities. How about World Bank’ LSMS with data on agricultural activities? Any such survey conducted in Cameroon?
