Uganda faces extremely high youth unemployment, with more than half of young people not in employment, education, or training. A team of local PEP researchers reviewed multiple key government youth employment programs, including skilling initiatives, enterprise schemes, and financial support programs. They found that while the programs remain relevant, their impact is limited by weak operational support, insufficient training and preparation of beneficiaries, and gaps in monitoring and evaluation. Strengthening technical guidance for implementers, better preparing beneficiaries, and ensuring consistent follow-up would significantly enhance program effectiveness and help young people access sustainable employment.
