Nigeria’s rising unemployment problem is particularly severe among the youth. The government has launched multiple youth employment policies and programmes (YEPs) in response. A team of local PEP researchers evaluated these YEPs. They found that financial grants for entrepreneurs are a good value and effective way to promote youth employment. However, efforts to improve inclusivity (of women and other marginalised groups) will be vital to the success of this policy. Other areas that can increase the success of YEPs include centrally coordinating the YEPs for greater efficiency and funding YEPs through collaborations with the private sector and NGOs.
