Despite Cameroon’s agricultural sector being dominated by women smallholders, their productivity is significantly lower than men, primarily due to having limited access to productive resources. Closing this gender gap is vital for reducing food insecurity, which is largely a rural concern in Cameroon. A team of local PEP researchers found that policies to mitigate women’s structural disadvantages can reduce the gender productivity gap among smallholders. Specific actions may include reducing the cost of fertilizer, increasing women’s access to cultivated land, and offering training to improve the level of education for smallholders.
