Tanzania faces significant vaccine hesitancy, driven by misinformation and mistrust. Local PEP researchers assessed three strategies to improve uptake: behavioral insights (SMS campaigns), community health workers (CHWs) & vaccine ambassadors, and Global VAX & partner coordination.
Key Findings:
- Global VAX & partner coordination ensured better vaccine availability and accountability.
- SMS campaigns had limited short-term impact but were cost-effective.
- CHWs & vaccine ambassadors improved outreach but faced sustainability challenges.
Policy Recommendations:
- Expand SMS campaigns in low-uptake areas with donor support.
- Strengthen CHW & vaccine ambassador training.
- Enhance coordination with development partners for sustained impact.
Implementing these strategies could boost vaccine acceptance and strengthen Tanzania’s public health system.
