Call for participants - Training Workshop on Measurements of Inequality of Opportunity and Inequality of Outcomes

The Economic Research Forum (ERF) announces the opportunity for some 20 participants from the MENA region to participate in a hands-on training workshop on analyzing inequality of opportunities and inequality of outcomes in Arab Countries. ERF will cover the cost of travel and accommodation of successful applicants.
 
The workshop will cover techniques of measuring inequality of income, health and education status using a variety of survey data sets from Arab countries. It will cover both parametric and non-parametric methods of linking inequality of outcomes to underlying inequalities of circumstances, such as family background, ethnicity, gender, and place of origin. The workshop will be conducted mainly in English, with the possibility of using Arabic and French when needed.

The workshop is part of a research project on inequality of opportunity ERF is sponsoring under its Research Initiative for Arab Development (RIAD). The workshop will be held in Cairo from October 17-20, 2011.

Eligibility

Applicants should be:

  • Researchers from the MENA regions with Ph.Ds or in the process of completing Ph.Ds or equivalent degrees.
  • Trained in statistics or econometrics and able to use statistical programs, preferably STATA.
  • Familiar with the management and analysis of household survey data.


Application procedure

Applications must include a statement of interest indicating why the candidate is interested in the topic of the workshop and how it relates to his or her research. The application forms must be completed and sent by email together with the applicant’s CV to:rnada@erf.org.eg.
