9th PEP General Meeting in Cambodia

Siem Reap, Cambodia - December 3-9, 2011

The 9th PEP General Meeting was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia, from December 3 to 9, 2011.

PEP general meetings are international events that gather hundreds of participants – development researchers, practitioners, lead experts and policy stakeholders - from around the world, who travel to learn and share knowledge on the most recent methodologies, concepts and findings in the analysis of policy issues related to poverty, economic and social development.

These meetings are, for instance, the perfect occasion for PEP-affiliated resource persons and international experts to provide hundreds of developing country researchers with intensive training in the use of the most updated analytical tools, concepts and methodological innovations fostered through the network's supported research and initiatives.

Following training sessions, attending researchers are invited to present either new research proposals or the latest reports from their already funded research projects, to peers and PEP-appointed evaluators. PEP meetings are, above all, a unique experience in terms of peer-review and scientific validation for Southern researchers.

Finally, each PEP general meeting features a one- or two-day policy conference, to present and discuss the policy implications of various PEP research outcomes. These presentations are thematically focused in accordance with current or emerging development policy issues, and several relevant stakeholders (policymakers, international institution representatives, etc.) are invited to both attend to and participate in. This year's policy conference themes were 1) "Policy Lessons of Impact Evaluation Initiatives" and 2) "Public Infrastructure and Inclusive Growth". As they provide an opportunity for international participants of both academic and government affiliations to debate on the issues at hand, these conferences thus contribute to bridging the gap between research and policy when defining options to address poverty issues and promote development in the South.

• Request for Visa Upon Arrival at the Siem Reap Airport:
• Step 1. Complete request form
• Step 2. Submit to the PEP Conference Secretariat the completed request form together with the following documents not later than October 15, 2011:
• Scanned Copy of Latest Passport (Valid for at least 6 months from date of entry in Cambodia)
• Recent Passport Size Photo in digital format

• For those who have requested for visa upon arrival at the Siem Reap Airport, kindly make sure to bring with you the following requirements:
  
  • a  hard copy of the letter from the Ministry of Planning-Cambodia. An e-copy has been sent to you by e-mail earlier.
  • Completed visa form (form distributed at the airplane en route to Siem Reap)
  • 1 x 1 photo
  • visa fee
    • For Normal Passport: US$20 tourist visa fee
    • For Official or Diplomatic Passport: No fee will be charged
      
      
  • Upon arrival at the airport, please proceed to the immigration office to secure your visa. Our local host, the Ministry of Planning-Cambodia, has provided the Immigration Office at the Siem Reap International Airport with an advance list of the PEP delegates with corresponding passport details for reference.
    
    
  • Participants who are citizens of ASEAN countries do not need visa for travel to Cambodia.

• Airport Transfers
  
  
  • Airport shuttle to/from the Hotel has been arranged for the PEP delegates through the Angkor Era Hotel.  The shuttle is part of the hotel accommodation that has been booked and paid for you by the organizers of the meeting.
  • Upon clearing at the immigration and getting your luggage, please proceed to the arrival reception area and look for the Angkor Era Hotel representative with the sign board "PEP Meeting".
